She was initially inspired by shadows cast on grass. Months later, she developed a method that didn't render the chosen object onto canvas in an image that was flat. This way, the selected subject is transformed into an image of itself. This is especially true for living things as well as those that are likely to perish for example, like fruits or human beings. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is a bit ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Techniques of photography and painting closely synchronized, which results in a flat, two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain areas of the photo like hair and eyes, reveal the third dimension. Meade often integrates her painting into the environment around her, which allows for them to interact within the context of their own. Thereby repealing the boundaries between painting, photography, performances and installations.
