Though she was never crowned with "American Idol" award, Kellie Pickler was one of the show's best alumni. Kellie Pickler was born June 28, 1986 to Cynthia Morton Pickler and Clyde Raymond Pickler in Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her birth parents were her mother who was 16 years old. Her childhood was hard for her as her father was addicted to drugs and alcohol, even though her mother had divorced from her aged only 2. Morton returned to take her custody for a couple of years, but Pickler acknowledged that it wasn't all that great. "I was eating dinner with my mother, when I asked her: 'I would rather die than be in this place.' She pulled out a knife, set it on the counter, then told me, 'Here, do it now.' This was in fourth grade. Naturally, I wouldn't be able to take it into consideration, but it's done an awful amount of emotional damage," she said. Pickler who was at the age of 12 was handed to her parents after the court hearing. Pickler was raised by her grandparents throughout her life and cited their influence as the main factor in her life. In January 2002, her maternal grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. Pickler was raised by her grandfather. Pickler received her diploma from The North Stanly High school situated in New London, North Carolina.
